URUMQI, June 11 (Xinhua) – Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region will invest a total of 5.85 billion yuan in 2020-2022 to upgrade the quality and efficiency of animal husbandry in the region.
The funds will be spent on four types of demonstration projects, including mutton sheep breeding base, premium milk source base, beef cattle breeding base, and animal epidemic prevention and control, and animal husbandry demonstration projects in 13 rural areas in Xinjiang.
According to the investment plan, Xinjiang is expected to add 900,000 mutton sheep, 200,000 beef cattle, and 60,000 dairy cows annually after implementing demonstration projects.
The money will also be spent on 100 township animal husbandry and veterinary station renovation, and information system construction for animal epidemic prevention in 96 county-level regions.
By the end of 2025, Xinjiang vows to build 8-10 large-scale poultry bases with a capacity of more than 500,000 livestock to increase the production capacity of the poultry industry by up to 30 percent in the region.
