BEIJING, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai's Lin-gang Special Area, a newly launched section of the Shanghai free trade zone,is going to build a global digital economy innovation island focusing on information industry, reported Shanghai Securities News Monday quoting an official.
The island, named "information flying fish", is planned to cover a construction area of 100 hectares, said Wu Xiaohua, deputy director of China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone Lin-gang Special Area Administration, at a meeting held Monday.
According to him, the island will be bordered by a community of top scientists in the east, S2 (Shanghai-Luchao Port) highway and Donghai Bridge in the west, Hangzhou Bay in the south, and Chenghe Port in the north.
The island is envisioned to be built with more than one million square meters of office research and development, production and living space, in a bid to support and serve the most advanced digital economy market players and institutions gathering here.
To achieve the goal, the whole area will go all out to speed up the construction of high-standard information infrastructure, laying a solid foundation for the development of the digital economy.
During the meeting, more than 100 leading enterprises, featured enterprises, industry institutions jointly signed a memorandum of cooperation on building an information industry alliance in the Lin-gang Special Area.
Shanghai Lin-gang Special Area Cross-border Data Technology Co., Ltd. was also unveiled at the meeting.
The company will focus on building a data service and exchange service platform for the international data port, and supporting leading enterprises in the field of digital economy to settle in the "information flying fish" island and seek innovative development.
