The new Rakuten store in Tokyo branded Pininfarina

Abstract : The project is part of the long-standing collaboration between Tech Mahindra and Rakuten Mobile linked to telecommunication network services. The store is in the central Shibuya area.

MILAN, May 28 (Class Editori) -- The design of a new concept store created in Tokyo for Rakuten Mobile, the Japanese mobile operator, is branded Pininfarina. It is a one-of-a-kind three-story shop. "A kaleidoscopic sequence of interconnected areas," explains a note.

The project is part of the long-standing collaboration between Tech Mahindra and Rakuten Mobile linked to telecommunication network services, and it is here that Pininfarina gets involved. In fact, the design starts from a generative and modular triangular element, articulated through the whole space, from the graphics of the wallpaper, to the shape of the sitting area and then the wooden cladding. The triangle represents a simple connective network: starting from the logo, it replicates by connecting to itself, simulating what happens within social communities.

The third floor is dedicated to the enhancement of the brand, allowing premium customers to experience new products and technologies firsthand and pick up the items purchased online. There is also a coffee area, which allows guests to take a break and rest.

Pininfarina has also worked to digitize all marketing and communication materials, relying on interactive and immersive displays. The second floor is dedicated to the purchase of products and services.

Last year, Pininfarina, the most famous Italian brand in the world for its design, since 2016 part of the Indian group Mahindra, has decided to split the business areas, to better resist the market difficulties and the loss of profitability, highlighted by the quarterly accounts.

Therefore, starting from January 1, 2019, two new sectors have been identified in the division of the group's activities: the Style sector and the Engineering sector. The Style sector includes, in addition to car and non-car style activities in all their forms, architectural services, proceeds deriving from the license of the Pininfarina brand, aerodynamics and aeroacoustics services, and income and costs associated with the management of real estate assets of the parent company.
