BEIJING, May 27 (Xinhua) -- China's internet giant Tencent plans to invest 500 billion yuan in new infrastructure in the next five years, said Tang Daosheng, president of the cloud and intelligent industry department of Tencent, on Tuesday.
Tencent will build several large data centers nationwide, each of which boasting more than one million servers.
According to Tang, Tencent will mainly invest in the fields of cloud computing, artificial intelligence, blockchain, servers, large data centers, supercomputing centers, Internet of Things (IoT) operating systems, 5G networks, audio and video communications, network security and quantum computing.
Meanwhile, Tencent will fully mobilize its internal scientific research experts and laboratory resources, cooperate with domestic and overseas top universities to build scientific research platforms, and actively participate in the formulation of industry standards.
"Accelerating the construction of new infrastructure will facilitate a closer connection between the supply side and the demand side of digital economy, provide a strong guarantee for the development of industrial Internet, and achieve high-quality economic development," noted Tang.
New infrastructure refers to digital facilities such as 5G base stations, vehicle charging stations, big data centers, artificial intelligence and industrial Internet. (Edited by Zhang Yuan with Xinhua Silk Road, zhangyuan11@xinhua.org)
