May 13, 2020

Abstract : Shanghai's online sales grew rapidly from May 1 to 10, with online retail sales exceeding 40 billion yuan, Hua Yuan, director with Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce told a press conference on Wednesday.

BEIJING, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai's online sales grew rapidly from May 1 to 10, with online retail sales exceeding 40 billion yuan, Hua Yuan, director with Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce told a press conference on Wednesday.

During the period, Shanghai handled 77.44 million express parcels, up 26.3 percent year on year. On May 6 alone, the number of parcels collected in the city rose 31.7 percent year on year to over 10 million.

The municipal government released 12 policy measures last month, aiming at boosting consumer confidence and unleashing consumption potential.

With policy support, an international consumer city promotion conference and a shopping festival were launched in Shanghai on May 4. Within 24 hours after the launch ceremony, the city's total consumption payment hit over 15.68 billion yuan. 34 key activities and 260 special campaigns have been held during the shopping festival, which will last till the end of June, vigorously boosting market recovery.

Shanghai also saw offline consumption rebound. The city's offline consumption of physical goods valued 48.2 billion yuan since May 1, basically on par with the level of the same period last year. (Edited by Su Dan with Xinhua Silk Road, silviasu07@163.com)
