Intermeeting is training Chinese doctors on infectious diseases

April 01, 2020

Abstract : The training course organized remotely in collaboration with the University of Padua is about to start. It will be available online on a platform designed by the Chinese Health Ministry, which initially should have had to start in May.

MILAN, Mar. 31 (Class Editori) - The coronavirus emergency has accelerated times. Intermeeting, an Italian excellence in the design and provision of scientific training and refresher courses for health professionals, will ensure to Chinese doctors an in-depth program concerning emerging and “returning” infectious diseases. The choice of this term should not mislead. It is not a reference to new Covid-19 cases coming to the People’s Republic from other countries, with the risk of reactivating the infection wave in the first country which seems to have overcome the pandemic.

“The term “returning” is correct, but in this case, we talk about emerging and re-emerging diseases. It is not a course on Covid-19”, as Croppo, Country Sales Manager of Intermeeting, has explained. The training course has been developed in collaboration with the University of Padua and will be available online on a platform designed by the Chinese Health Ministry. Initially, it should have had to start in May; however, the ongoing epidemic, which has firstly forced China to a lockdown in order to contain the infection cases and is now blocking Europe, has pushed Beijing to anticipate times.

The aim is sharing all the knowledge which can help managing the Covid-19 contagion, as well as finding quick and targeted solutions to contain the virus. The lectures given by the residents of Padua will concern the definition and pathogenesis of the emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases; the epidemiologic chain of infectious diseases; the clinical and socio-economic implications; the prevention and control methods and the role of the national healthcare system.

“It is not a specific course on the current coronavirus, it starts from the institutional indications given by the WHO. In fact, measures such as social distance have already been provided and used in the case of a pandemic, as Croppo has underlined. The socio-economic part, also with a focus on how countries will ease restrictive measures with a return to normality, analyses, instead, the costs of various epidemics which have occurred: avian influenza, H1N1, Zika virus infection.

Today, the on-field experience of the Italian doctors and the recognized authority profile of our Universities are representing- now more than ever- a treasure that the whole world is asking us to share. Even in the countries which have firstly faced the infection and today are worried about a backlash”, as Croppo has continued. Nowadays, Intermeeting is the only Italian operator of distance health learning to have started a collaboration with the Chinese Ministry of Health. Once the coronavirus emergency is over, other courses will be started, always in collaboration with the University of Padova. The list includes cardiology and hearth surgery, however, courses regarding the psychological implications of the crisis triggered by coronavirus cannot be excluded: they will always be uploaded on the platform created by the Chinese Ministry of Health.

For the company founded in 1999, the foreign market is representing one of the growth drivers. In the last years, it has implemented training projects in Latin America, Africa and the UAE by training more than 65 thousand doctors. Meanwhile, in Italy the distance learning has concerned 45 thousand people. (All rights reserved)
