BEIJING, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Shanxi, located in north China and known as a coal province in the country, is creating a new engine for structure transformation.
With non-coal industries having grown rapidly to lead industrial growth last year, the province started piloting 12 characteristic industrial clusters to boost emerging industries in April 2019, which were expected to become a new engine for its structural transformation.
Thanks to its abundant resources, Shanxi has actively undertaken international and domestic industrial transfer and continuously improved its investment and development environment.
In October 2019, the People's Government of Shanxi Province issued a document on foreign investment, further boosting investment liberalization and facilitation for high quality economic development.
Last year, the province reported a regional GDP of 1.70 trillion yuan, up 6.2 percent year on year. (Edited by Duan Jing with Xinhua Silk Road, duanjing@xinhua.org)
