MILAN, Feb. 26 (Class Editori) - Covid-19 is not having any particular impact on Piaggio's plants in Italy, India and Vietnam. The company "will continue to work to strengthen its positioning on global markets", the group says communicating the 2019 data. That year closed with a net profit growing to € 46.7 million (+29.6%) and consolidated revenues of 1.5 billion (+9.5%). The EBITDA stood at 227.8 million (+12.9%), while the EBITDA margin rose to 15% (14.5% in 2018) and represents the best figure since 2006 (year of listing). EBIT amounts to 104.5 million (+12.7%).
In the last year, the Pontedera-based group has sold 611,300 vehicles around the world, with a growth of 1.3% compared to 2018. Strong growth in revenues in the Asia Pacific region (+23.2%), followed by the EMEA and Americas area (+8.8%) and India (+4.8%). As for Piaggio, it sold 399,600 vehicles globally (+1.6%), for a net turnover of over 1 billion (+10.1%) compared to € 957.9 million at 31 December 2018.
Piaggio, explains the company, intends to confirm its leadership position in the European two-wheeler market, making the most of the recovery expected through a further strengthening of the product range, both scooters and motorcycles. The company also wants to maintain its current positions on the European commercial vehicle market, strengthening the sales network; to consolidate its presence in the Asian and Pacific area, "exploring new opportunities in the countries of the area, always with particular attention to the premium market segment". At the same time, the group is committed to strengthening sales in the Indian scooter market thanks to the offer of Vespa and Aprilia products; and increasing the sales of commercial vehicles in India, thanks to the introduction of new engines.
In the latter sector, the group sold 211,700 units in the period, in line with the same period of the previous year with a net final turnover of € 466.2 million, an increase of 8% compared to € 431.6 million at December 31, 2018. The figure includes spare parts and accessories, which recorded sales of € 51.4 million, up 7.8%.
