NANJING, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Skechers China resumed the construction of a distribution center Sunday in east China's Jiangsu Province, the local authority confirmed Monday.
With a total investment of 2.4 billion yuan (about 342 million U.S. dollars), the 320,000-square-meter project, located in the city of Taicang, aims to become an e-commerce headquarters, a logistics warehouse for the Asia region, a distribution center, a research and development center and a training center of the global sportswear brand.
Nancy Zhang, the project director, said the first phase was scheduled to be completed in April 2020, covering an area of 155,000 square meters. But they will reassess and fine-tune the completion time due to the epidemic.
The first phase of the project focuses on wholesale and retail, while the second is expected to construct a centralized operation zone for e-commerce, according to Zhang.
"Although the Chinese market has recently been affected by the novel coronavirus epidemic, it remains full of potential," Zhang added.
At a ceremony Monday, Taicang announced the resuming work of 88 major projects, with a total investment of 66.54 billion yuan.
