Sanitation after coronavirus: the technology is by the Padua-based company Pureairion

February 21, 2020

Abstract : The company has developed a generator of electrons in order to sanitize areas and environments, which is able to kill 95% of bacteria, mold and viruses; the generator is called SHU (Sanitary Habit Unit). The innovation has been used to reopen the Idrobase plant in Ningbo.

MILAN, Feb. 20 (Class Editori) – A made in Italy technology aimed at sanitizing areas, which, in the middle of the coronavirus epidemic, has allowed the Italian company Idrobase to reopen its factory in Ningbo. The technology is by the Padua-based company Pureairion. The system has been inspired by the photolysis. The company led by Bruno Spladore has developed a generator of electrons in order to sanitize areas and environments, which is able to kill 95% of bacteria, mold and viruses; the generator is called SHU (Sanitary Habit Unit).

“A semiconductor constituted by a material made up of particles of titanium dioxide (whose dimensions are smaller than 100 billionth of a meter) generates, after the exposure to light radiation (UV-VIS), couples of electron holes (one of the two charge carriers, which contributes to the flow of electric current in the semiconductors), which cause reactions of oxidation-reduction, provoked by the contact with water (air humidity) to create hydroxyl radicals and with oxygen to create superoxide ions”, this is the explication by Giovanni Mastrovito, a physicist specialized in nanotechnologies and scientific director of the Padua-based company.

Thanks to a research in aerobiology and biotechnology which has lasted for a decade, a system to purify air has been developed, which uses an advanced hydrated catalytic photo-oxidation based on a new-generation technology (AHMPP), which do not rely on filters or on the air passage through air purifiers, but instead it absorbs and converts the luminous energy part into electrons and electron holes.

Photocatalysis is the natural phenomenon for which a substance, called photocatalyst, modifies -thanks to the light effect (natural or artificial) – the speed of a chemical reaction, by imitating the photosynthesis: its chemical process represents an oxidation which induces the inorganic and organic substances decomposition.

The oxidants produced by the AHMPP system are fatal also for coronavirus, however they do not damage neither people nor domestic animals.

“Our product is improving the air we breathe in indoor areas, which are always more polluted than the outside. Our mission is also aiming at improving life quality, in order to leave a better world for our children and future generations”, as the commercial manager Andrea Fiesoli has stated. He has recently attended the Expo Kuwait-Italy which has been held in Kuwait city, on last February, 6-8.

The system used by Idrobase in its production unit in Ningbo is now opening a new strand for the Italian export. According to a recent meeting between the government and the companies, organized by Utopia Lab consulting company, after the coronavirus epidemic the sanitation and the technologies aimed at ensuring a cleaner and as aseptic as possible work environment may become one of the two key points on which Beijing is going to focus in the next future, by encouraging investments in research, development and innovation fields.
