InfoQuest (Sept. 12, 2019) -- Thai Prime Minister and Defense Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha attended the ceremony at which the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Industry, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Federation of Thai Industries and the Private Hospital Association of Thailand signed a memorandum of cooperation on promoting health and disease prevention in the workplace.
At the same time, the Prime Minister announced that 10 workplace health and sanitation promotion measures were launched to integrate resources so as to enhance health, prevent diseases and reduce unhealthy behaviors that may cause chronic diseases or occupational diseases. The memorandum of cooperation was signed to reduce work duplication among these agencies. In addition, it is planned to update the database of information on health promotion and disease prevention so that information can be shared among relevant agencies.
The signing of the memorandum of cooperation will serve as a pilot project for other related matters, the Prime Minister said today. The Thai government has been striving to promote physical and mental health for people of all ages because health is the foundation of happiness. Thailand recently ranked sixth in a global health survey of 89 countries. The top position suggests that Thailand's health-care systems are comparable to those of other countries. Hospitals attach great importance to health management services, and every government, including the current government, has been committed to boosting the implementation of relevant policies, so Thailand's health care systems are getting better and better.
Prime Minister Prayut said that labor is an important force in the state and business sector and that attention must be focused on improving labor skills because every worker will effectively participate in promoting social and economic development. In order to improve the quality of life of the 51 million working-age people, the government shall start with health promotion and disease prevention, especially chronic diseases that require time and money to cure. The incidence of disease must be reduced and then the saved budget could be used for development in other aspects.
"The memorandum of cooperation signed today must be implemented, targets and timetables must be set, and further actions must be followed up. In addition, public awareness must be raised to meet changes and challenges, including natural disasters," the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister expressed his concern about people's obsession with social media today as it could put pressure on them. He hoped that the media should spread positive energy, and should not bring pressure to society and destroy the reputation of the country.
