MILAN, Feb. 2020 (Class Editori) - “Our factory in Taizhou reopened on Monday, at the end of the procedure which we have positively passed. Therefore, after two weeks of forced closing, the production of our solar panels has been resumed”. Alessandro Barin, 40 years old, is now optimistic about the production restart; he is the founder and CEO of FuturaSun, the Padua-based company which last year opened a productive plant of highly efficient solar panels, by challenging the Chinese leadership in this sector, thanks to the leading Italian technology.
“The production has not been 100% resumed yet, because also the many enterprises which are part of the raw materials and components supply chain are progressively reopening; however, we are finally restarting also the production of new products, which we have launched on the market exactly in these weeks. Nevertheless, the activities of our company have never really stopped thanks to the stocks provided for the New Year’s celebrations and to the home working carried on by the offices in China, which have always kept themselves in touch with Italy. We are even hoping to be able to recover these two weeks of inactivity”, he has explained to MF Milano Finanza.
The sales office of FuturaSun is based in Padua, while the operation center is located in China, 150 km away from Shanghai and 800 from Wuhan, the epidemic epicenter. Barin has been living with his family in Suzhou, from which he came back on the first days of February.
Question: what do you think about how China is facing the emergency?
Answer: I am quite optimistic. I see a great country which wants to restart and has been able to cope with the situation with great determination, in order to adopt huge preventive measures aimed at protecting public health and avoiding the virus spread. I had also experienced the SARS emergency in 2003 and I had already gained experience.
Q. Any difference with that emergency?
A. From that time, China has totally changed. Today millions of people move every day; this was even unthinkable a decade ago but has contributed to a quicker spread of the virus. It would be uncontrollable without the incredible measures taken by Chinese authorities aimed at effectively tackle the virus spread.
Q. What has changed for you?
A. At that time I was an Italian student in China; today, instead, I am responsible of my family and employees; however, the measures we have adopted should lead to the hoped result. I am confident that everything can come back to normal within one or two months. The reopening on Monday is the best sign to good luck for the future.
Q. Are you ready to come back to China?
A. Of course I am. But the return has been planned for the second half of March because schools are still closed and so my daughter could not come back to her daily routine. I usually divide my time between Italy and China because FuturaSun has been established, since the beginning, as an Italian and Chinese company at the same time, in order to be able to combine and catch the potentials of both these two different worlds.
Q. How are things going on?
A. We are growing really quickly, we have many projects for 2020 which are starting to take shape and for which we will be busy.
Q. Which situation have you left in China?
A. I have left a particular situation because in the whole country precise regulations regarding people and goods movement have been enacted by the central government and implemented by local governments. It is a movement management system established at the speed of light, as only in China would have been possible.
Q. Such as?
A. In the district of Suzhou, where I live, disease cases have not been recorded and so there is no movement restriction; however, in order to move also in the neighbourhood, very strict controls remain active. To reach the Airport of Shanghai we spent 5 hours instead of the usual two hours, in order to pass the body temperature inspection on all people who arrived from the city gates.
Q. Which information do you have about the work resumption?
A. In these days, the reopening has started under a serious public control; in our province this is happening even following a ranking, which has prioritized the strategic companies for the society according to a number of factors. However, the reopening is depending on accurate health-hygiene requirements on work places and on health status, origin and recent movements evaluation for employees.
Q. What is the procedure about?
A. Firstly, there is a self-control undertaken by the company which asks to reopen, then the check by authorities, who, before the reopening, will organize an audit on the workplace in order to give the green light. The company must have the possibility to ventilate the environments and have disinfectants at disposal; every employee must complete a declaration on his movements, undergo diagnostic tests, wear a mask and measure temperature 2-3 times per day. At the canteen, employees must sit at each table alone or separating panels with cardboard boxes are created.
