InfoQuest (February 20, 2020) -- The export volume of finished vehicles in January 2020 recorded 65,295 units, accounting for 76.69 percent of the total output of vehicles for export, down 19.96 percent from January 2019, according to Surapong Paisitpatnapong, vice chairman and spokesman of the Automotive Industry Club of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI). As a result of economic slowdown in trading partners, most shipment destinations reduced car orders from Thailand, except the Middle East. Exports totaled 32,2713.7 billion baht, down 20.94 percent from January 2019.
Domestic auto sales fell by 8.2 percent to 71,688 units from January 2019, mainly due to the stricter approval of auto loans by financial institutions.
Total vehicle production in January 2020 was 156,266 units, down 12.99 percent from January 2020, but up 16.44 percent from December 2019, of which 85,143 were for export and 71,123 were for domestic sales.
