BEIJING, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- Eight Chinese port enterprises have recently decided to extend the detention period or reduce the yard fee for containers held up in marine terminals, according to the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT).
Due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in China, a bulk of import and export goods can not be transported on time and are detented in ports.
Eight Chinese port enterprises including SIPG, Guangzhou Port and FCT have announced measures to facilitate the customer use of containers and import and export cargos by extending the detention deadlines or reducing the yard fee for containers.
Other shipping enterprises including COSCO Shipping, Maersk and Antong holdings have announced that they will suspend the demurrage penalties and extend the detention period for containers held up in ports.
Demurrage pertains to the time an import container sits in a container terminal, with carriers responsible for collecting penalties on behalf of the marine terminals. (Edited by Gao Jingyan, gaojingyan@xinhua.org)
