The new Center is spread over a vast area of 1,200 square meters, with an area dedicated to the promotion of the Sistema Italia, a children's corner and areas reserved for individual visa applicants and travel agencies.
In 2019, the Consulate General of Italy in Canton dealt with almost 90,000 visa applications, which have been steadily growing over the last three years.
The new Visa Center was created to further facilitate bilateral exchanges, Italy-China cooperation and the flow of tourists, in particular at the start, in 2020, of the Year of Culture and Tourism between China and Italy. It will be also the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, a further opportunity to deepen mutual understanding through culture and tourism.

She has an in-deepth knowldege of China, because from 2006 to 2010 she served at the Embassy of Italy in Beijing as Head of the Ambassador's Secretariat.
Her diplomatic career started in 2002, from 2003 to 2006 she served in the Russian and Central Asia Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation dealing with bilateral relations with the countries of competence. From 2010 to 2014 she was Vice Consul of Italy in New York, responsible for the passport, registry, consular, cultural, commercial and press sectors. From 2015 to 2018 she was Head of the scholarship office, promotion of the Italian language and publishing and internationalization of the university system at the Directorate General Promotion of the Country System of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
