InfoQuest (November 19, 2019) -- Speaking after the cabinet meeting, Thai Prime Minister and Defense Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said that he has instructed cabinet ministers to come up with measures to improve the grassroots economy as well as assist farmers and workers, and urged them to team up in addressing a series of issues.
He also ordered the economic cabinet to adjust the work plan to cover more issues as so many tasks must be advanced at the same time, including domestic and foreign investment, tourism, infrastructure, especially public investment involving many aspects, and accelerate the budget expenditure of the government and state-owned enterprises in the fourth quarter of 2019, so as to ensure the budget expenditure progress in the first quarter of 2020.
"Any spending of the budget of the fiscal year of 2020 has to wait until after the bill is passed by parliament. Concerted efforts are required to find ways to advance these issues forward, and constant criticism will only lead to a lack of confidence", said Mr. Prayut.
The prime minister said despite the closure of factories and unemployment of workers, new factories were established at the same time. In terms of labor force, it is necessary to improve the quality of workers, and analyze what majors are subject to high unemployment rate and what majors the labor market needs. Some groups may face difficulties and the government must mull how to provide assistance. As yet, the government has announced both short-term and long-term measures to cope with the impact of rapid technological change.
"As external factors have undergone changes, the evaluation on the government should be more objective and impartial. The government is doing its best and we should encourage and help each other," Mr. Prayut said.
