Thai Prime Minister: Thai government values digital technology and network security

Abstract : Thai Prime Minister and Defense Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha presided over the opening ceremony of the "Digital Thailand Big Bang 2019: ASEAN Connectivity" hosted by the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA), and delivered a special speech titled "The role of Thailand in ASEAN Connectivity".

InfoQuest, (October 28, 2019) -- Thai Prime Minister and Defense Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha presided over the opening ceremony of the "Digital Thailand Big Bang 2019: ASEAN Connectivity" hosted by the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA), and delivered a special speech titled "The role of Thailand in ASEAN Connectivity". The Prime Minister noted that after 10 years, Thailand once again acted as the chairman of ASEAN; Thailand must work together with other ASEAN members to create an enabling environment for digital economy and establish connectivity regionally and globally; digital technology should be used to benefit all groups, enable the development of start-ups and the transformation and upgrade of various business sectors, implement the national strategy of growing Thailand into a developed country, and push for works in line with the six digital development strategies formulated by Thailand; among those efforts, Thai government should advance the development of digital economy in all aspects.

Besides, digital technology should also be used to enhance competitiveness, for which Thai government has made sustained efforts. In a recent competitiveness report, Thailand ranks 38th among 140 countries; digital technology should be harnessed to develop financial services and banking sector to deliver convenience and security for the people.

According to Prayut, Thai government will renew its efforts in pushing for smart city and using digital technology to develop infrastructure; it will work on human resources development and create equal opportunities, such as bringing internet to villages. Meanwhile, Thai government is moving faster to use digital technology in agriculture, including planting, harvesting, processing, and sales. In Thung Kula Ronghai, big data was used to define planting area, which turned out to be a success.

Digital technology can also be used to create a better environment, such as water resources management. Meanwhile, it can also be used in government administration; opinions from all sides can be solicited to enhance government services.

The Prime Minister encouraged children and youths to pay more attention to digital technology development and scientific research to meet the state's development needs, so as to establish new-generation start-ups in the future and boost Thailand's development in all fields. Thai government will work with friends and partners from all countries for better development.

He also stressed the importance of network safety; Thai government has taken various measures to cope with the new threat. Amid the emergence of varied kinds of network fraud, all parties should work to enhance the capacity of network safety.
