TIANJIN, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese bio-fermentation industry has maintained stable growth, with its output value in 2018 reaching 247.2 billion yuan (about 35 billion U.S. dollars), up 3.4 percent year on year, according to a report.
The sector is an important part of the bio-manufacturing industry in China. China is a major supplier of a variety of bulk fermented products in the international market.
China leads the world in the output of glutamic acid, citric acid and other bulk fermented products, according to the report jointly released by the Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology and Chengdu Library and Information Center, both under the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The value of major exported fermented products from China increased from 2.7 billion dollars in 2010 to 4.28 billion dollars in 2017, with an average annual growth rate of 8.4 percent, said the report.
However, the growth of China's fermentation industry slowed down over the past two years, due to a focus on improving quality and efficiency, the report said.
With stricter environmental protection requirements, there has been an increasingly urgent demand of enterprises in the industry for modern fermentation technology, said the report.
