BEIJING, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Guangxi has unique advantages to play a greater role in the Belt and Road construction, stated Lu Xinshe, secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Regional Committee, at a press conference held by China's State Council Information Office on September 2.
Guangxi is the only region in China adjacent to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) by land and sea, serving as the most convenient sea passage in southwest China, said Lu.
Guangxi's biggest advantage lies in its geographical location while its largest potential lies in opening-up, pointed out him.
In order to play a greater role in the Belt and Road construction, Lu emphasized, Guangxi has been committed to creating a new and all-dimensional opening up and development pattern featuring connectivity between south, north, east and west China.
To achieve the goal, the region plans to build a new international passage towards ASEAN countries by taking the construction of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor as the opportunity, and enhance smooth connectivity with southwest China's Guizhou Province, Chongqing Municipality and Sichuan Province as well as northwest China's Shaanxi Province and Gansu Province.
Guangxi will also take actions to integrate into the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, so as to speed up its own development.
Besides, it will work with southwest China's Yunnan Province to strengthen cooperation with countries along the Mekong River such as Vietnam, Myanmar and Laos in infrastructure construction and market expansion.
Efforts will also be made to build the recently approved China (Guangxi) Pilot Free Trade Zone into a free trade zone with high standard and quality that will help facilitate trade and investment, improve financial services and provide safe and effective monitoring, so as to better serve the Belt and Road construction.
