InfoQuest (August 21, 2019) -- Mr. Kalin Sarasin, chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand, revealed that currently, Thai tourism shows a trend of sustained growth, and tourism revenue accounts for a high percentage in total GDP. The expenditures in hotel and homestay take up the largest share in total tourism expenditure, about 26 percent. There are still over 20 thousand hotels and homestays which have not yet applied for legal business license.
The government bulletin released on June 12, 2019 publicized the No. 6/2562 notice issued by the chairman of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), namely the Measures for Promoting and Developing the Business Standards of Some Types of Hotels. The Measures is designed to help homestay and hotel operators that have not obtained business license and those using houses built before 2016 to operate. Those operators can continue to offer relevant services supposed that they declare to local relevant departments before September 9, 2019. Besides, operators can finish the transformation of buildings within two years to meet standards stipulated in relevant departmental regulations, the deadline is August 18, 2021.
According to Mr. Kalin, as the representative of private sector, the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand believes that publicity should be made to ensure the law-based operation of operators. Such an approach will help regulate the hotel and homestay business in Thailand, enhance the transparency and flexibility of operation, enhance service quality, ensure life and property safety, enable tourists to access quality and fair services, build a sound image of Thai tourism, and enhance the confidence of tourists on Thai tourism.
In line with Article 44 of Thailand's provisional constitution, the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade of Thailand will cooperate with provincial business organization, and relevant government and private sectors to host seminars to solve problems in hotel industry. The seminars will be held in Chonburi, Phuket Island, Banburi Province, Changwat Ubon Ratchathani, and Bangkok. The seminars are designed to spread relevant knowledge among operators, make them understand the contents of No. 6/2562 notice, and carry out it timely to better serve the ever-increasing tourists.
