July 31, 2019

Abstract : The first Cabinet meeting approved to establish the economic minister council was held. The council will be chaired by the prime minister and will include all of his deputies and ministers in charge of ministries related to economic affairs.

InfoQuest (July 30, 2019) -- The first Cabinet meeting approved to establish the economic minister council was held. The council will be chaired by the prime minister and will include all of his deputies and ministers in charge of ministries related to economic affairs. In order to ensure that all ministries work towards the same direction, policies must be discussed at the economic minister council, and work must be coordinated under the supervision of deputy prime ministers, according to Prime Minister and Defense Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha.

Regarding short-term economic stimulus measures, the prime minister said the stimulus package is under review of the Ministry of Finance and will focus on boosting domestic consumption and tourism. In addition, guidelines to expedite spending of the government and state-owned enterprises have been drawn up, which are in line with the 2020 budget preparation.

Mr. Prayut said it is expected to sign contracts with the private sector on the project to link three airport high-speed rails in September 2019 to speed up the delivery of sites to the private sector and the launch of construction. At present, more than 80% of the preparatory work has been completed. The transport minister will review the relevant details once again, and said he is confident that the project can be pushed forward as scheduled.
