LANZHOU, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Gansu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism signed a cooperation agreement for the construction of the Gansu rural tourism development index with China Economic Information Service (CEIS), a wholly-owned company of Xinhua News Agency, on Tuesday.
With the compilation of the index, northwest China's Gansu Province will comprehensively sort out its cultural tourism resources, and further lay out its industrial direction to help achieve green and high-quality development.
It is reported that Gansu boasts various kinds of rural tourism resources, such as ancient villages, pastoral scenery, religious customs and Gobi desert, implying huge potential for tourism development.
In recent years, Gansu has focused on the rural tourism for rural vitalization and made efforts to enhance added value of tourism resources.
The "Xinhua Index" team under CEIS will build an evaluation system from the perspectives of resource environment, market popularity, product service, infrastructure, brand and development potential, through the combination of big data calculation and field investigation, to create the local rural tourism development index which truly reflects the development of the rural tourism industry in Gansu Province.
It is noted that the index will provide a clear decision-making basis for relevant authorities to better regulate the tourism market. (Edited by Hu Pingchao, hupingchao@xinhua.org)
