MILAN, July 19 (Class Editori) - Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi, will become one of the preferred destinations for Italian tourism in China in the coming month. In 2020 the year of Italy-China culture will be celebrated. This was underlined today by the management of Sea, the Milan airport management company, and Xi'an Xianyang international airport, signing a memorandum of understanding for the development of a strategic cooperation project that includes the increase of new routes between the international airport of Milan Malpensa and of Xi'an, the main airport of the Shaanxi province.
The main objective of the collaboration, signed in the presence of Liang Gui, Deputy Governor of Shaanxi, will be to establish a direct air link between Malpensa and Xi'an, the province's capital, for the development of passenger traffic and the promotion of their respective destinations.
“2020 will be the year of culture and tourism between Italy and China and this partnership, which is part of the Belt and Road initiative, will contribute to bringing the two countries closer together,” explained Armando Brunini, CEO of Sea. “I am satisfied with Sea's work with airport representatives and local authorities, but we hope that the central government will be sensitive to greater openness in favor of liberalization between the two nations thanks to bilateral agreements,” added Brunini.
“Sea is one of the ten largest airport operators in Europe for freight and passenger traffic and Malpensa airport is one of the main international airports in Europe, while Xi'an Xianyang international airport is the largest Chinese airport in the north-western area and one of the main Chinese international hubs. It is a great honor for us to sign this Mou with Sea,” remarked Xxia's Deputy General Manager Ma Zhonghua.
With 33.8 million passengers (+8.1%) travelling in 2018, of Malpensa is the second Italian airport and tenth in Europe for its volume of passengers, with 33.8 million people travelling in 2018 (+8.1%), of which 6.3 on intercontinental routes only (+17%). The airport ranks first in Italy and fifth in Europe for freight traffic. In 2018 it welcomed 7 million tourists, ranking first in Italy for punctuality and travel times.
