InfoQuest (July 18, 2019) - Mr. Viratai Santiprapop, governor of the Bank of Thailand (BOT), presided at the Opening Ceremony of the Bangkok FinTech Fair 2019: Collaboration for the Future of Finance held at the Bank of Thailand Learning Center from July 18 to 19, 2019. So far, the event has been successfully held for two years. Over the past year since its 2018 version themed SME and Consumer Financial Solutions, Thailand has made remarkable achievements in commercializing fintech innovations which have been widely used.
This year features an even broader theme, accenting the cooperation between service providers including financial institutions, payment service providers and fintech companies, and allied government and private institutions on creating an enabling environment for fintech development so as to meet consumer needs and improve the efficiency of institutions. And the cooperation with international peers on financial services and modern payment technologies is also a focus of this event.
Specifically, the Main Conference Hall discussed the advanced financial technology projects at home and abroad; the Technology Talk delved into and demonstrated the advancements in fintech; the ASEAN FinTech Connectivity in conjunction with the showcase displayed ASEAN's achievements in fintech cooperation. Financial institutions, payment service providers, fintech companies, and domestic and foreign government agencies also set up booths to demonstrate their latest financial technologies in order to give visitors firsthand experience and enhance their understanding of modern financial products.
Another highlight of the event was a press conference on the development of Thailand's financial infrastructure. That includes the upgrading of digital identification and verification through the National Digital Identity (NDID) system, and the introduction of MyPromptQR service, a new QR Payment model designed for the business sector, which is expected to become a new driving force for Thailand's future financial services and digital payments.
It is estimated that the Bangkok FinTech Fair 2019 will welcome about 1,000 visitors per day, including senior managers and staff of financial institutions, payment service providers, fintech companies, government and private institutions, foreign central banks and financial institutions, international organizations, and university professors and students, as well as ordinary people interested in fintech.
