The automotive supplier Bosch is planning to establish a research centre for artificial intelligence in the German city of Tuebingen. The centre is expected to create 700 jobs, mayor Boris Palmer said on Wednesday. Construction is due to start in 2020.
The company said it plans to invest around 35 million euros (39 million dollars) in the construction of the campus. The move into the new facility is foreseen for late 2022.
Bosch is currently holding talks with the city on purchasing a property of around 12,000 square metres on which the research centre is meant to be built.
The Bosch facility is due to become part of Germany's "Cyber Valley." This collaborative project involving industry and science players - and supported by the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg - foresees the creation of an international focal point for artificial intelligence research and the development of intelligent systems in the region around Stuttgart and Tuebingen.
In addition to the universities of Tuebingen and Stuttgart, companies such as Amazon, Daimler and Porsche are also involved in the project.
