BEIJING, June 27 (Xinhua) -- International Monetary Fund (IMF) will bring international experience and practices to B&R construction, said IMF Senior Resident Representative for China Alfred Schipke here Thursday in the inaugural meeting of the Belt and Road Economic Information Partnership (BREIP).
BREIP is initiated by Xinhua News Agency and co-founded by more than 30 institutions including well-known news agencies, information service providers, research institutions, chambers of commerce and associations from 26 countries and regions in Asia, Europe, Africa, Latin America and Oceania.
China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has strong potential to contribute to economic connectivity and development and can help participating countries fill large infrastructure gaps, Alfred Schipke told the conference.
"It will be important to strengthen policy frameworks and foster capacity development in China and in partner countries," noted Alfred.
According to the IMF official, IMF and the People's Bank of China jointly inaugurated the China-IMF Capacity Development Center in Beijing in April 2018, offering training and workshops, mostly at training facilities in Shenzhen and Dalian for Chinese government officials from all relevant ministries/agencies and BRI partner countries and beyond,
Moreover, IMF has been working directly with China's ministries and government agencies. For example, the Fund shared its international experience on issues related to fiscal sustainability analysis with the Ministry of Finance.
The Fund could also work closely with the Chinese authorities in areas related to good international practice in public private partnerships and public financial management, Alfred added. (Edited by Bao Nuomin, baonuomin@xinhua.org)
