InfoQuest, (May 28, 2019) -- The Department of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce held the "Thailand Rice Convention 2019" (TRC 2019) on May 27-29, 2019.To showcase Thailand's internationally-recognized status and potential as a world leader in rice trade and export, TRC 2019 was themed "Rice Style: The New Global Lifestyle", according to Mr. Boonyarit Kalayanamit, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Commerce. The event was attended by more than 800 delegates, including a delegation of senior officials from the Ministry of Commerce, representatives from Thai and foreign government agencies, producers, importers, exporters, experts and scholars, as well as farmers and media from all over Thailand.

The Permanent Secretary gave a special speech themed "Thai Rice: Global Food Center", which emphasized the significance of rice for the country's economy, society, culture, environment and food security. Rice is among Thailand's main cash crops and important export products. Thailand exports an average of 10 million tons of rice to the world market each year, generating an average annual income of over 150 billion baht and thus helping Thailand reign for a long time as the world's leading exporter of rice.

Amid the current changes of lifestyles and consumption habits of global rice consumers, Thailand needs to adjust and improve the rice production process to cater for various consumer groups, so as to help Thailand maintain an important food center in the world for a long time. This move will not only benefit the Thai people but also the international community.

Various events were held during the TRC 2019. An exhibition themed "The Kings and Thai Rice" was held to celebrate the coronation of the country's 10th king. "TRC 2019 Rice Style" used an interactive wall to display technological innovations which can produce the new-generation rice that is tasty, clean and safe, nutritious and in line with the healthy lifestyle of modern consumers. "Rice Bar" served creative drinks made from rice, and Patti Chananchida, the champion in MasterChef Junior Thailand Season One staged a Thai rice cooking show.

In addition, a seminar was also held, with attendance of scholars, experts and delegates at home and abroad who have rich experience in global rice trade and rice-based innovative products. At the seminar, they shared experience, knowledge and ideas which can contribute to the development of rice products and innovative rice in the future. Meanwhile, participants were organized to conduct surveys and learn about the lifestyle and civilization of Thai farmers in Suphanburi in the learning center. And the THAIFEX-World of Food Asia 2019 was held at IMPACT Muang Thong Thani, a convention and exhibition center in northern suburb of Bangkok.
