A German textile association will apply to have a project in Saxony for the development of medical textiles funded by the federal government and expanded to other states, it announced on Monday.
The vti association of the north-eastern German textile and clothing industry would like the support from the federal ZIM innovation programme to be available from July 1.
"This is tight, but needed. A lot of preparatory work has been carried out," said vti managing director Jenz Otto. It is seeking 200,000 euros (222,915 dollars) in funding over two years.
The "health.textil 4.0" project is focused, among other things, on antibacterial substances, compression stockings and other devices to immobilise and provide relief for limbs.
Since 2017, it has received 200,000 euros from the Saxon Ministry of Economic Affairs - funding that will end next month. Given the project's innovation potential, there was support for follow-up financing, Economic Affairs Minister Martin Dulig said.
The federal aid would allow the project to be expanded to other German states and the Czech Republic. "We can now involve new partners, for instance from Thuringia or the Czech Republic," project manager Johann Varga said.
