In the dispute over Germany's current economic policy, the Bavarian premier, Markus Söder, has emphasized the importance of small and medium-sized businesses. The real answer to the current economic challenges is the promotion of the SME sector, the leader of Bavaria's Christian Social Union said on Wednesday evening in Munich.
The Federal Economics Minister, Peter Altmaier, a member of the Christian Democrats, recently stated that the aim of his industrial policy was for the state to play a more active role in the creation of "industrial champions." His comments have attracted criticism from many parts of the economy, especially from small and medium-sized businesses.
Rainer Dulger, who is president of Gesamtmetall, the employers' association for the metal and electric industry, accused the federal government of not recognizing the seriousness of the situation. "Federal politicians are to blame for the fact that our competitiveness is falling," he said at the inauguration ceremony for the new president of the Bavarian Industry Association, Wolfram Hatz. He, in turn, criticized the coalition agreement between the CDU and the center-left Social Democrats as obsolete and called for an "update."
