BEIJING, May 8 (Xinhua) -- China has achieved increasing results in digital construction, according to a report on the country's digital development unveiled Monday at the 2nd Digital China Summit held in Fuzhou, capital city of Fujian Province in east China.
China's digital economy amounted to 31.3 trillion yuan in 2018, accounting for 34.8 percent of its gross domestic product (GDP), said the report.
It noted that significant progress has been made in China's digital construction in 2018, with major tasks and key projects being advanced and the annual national information development goal being successfully completed.
According to Yang Xiaowei, deputy director with Cyberspace Administration of China, as of the end of 2018, the number of Chinese netizens reached 829 million with Internet penetration rate standing at 59.6 percent.
Besides, during this period, China's electronic information manufacturing, software and information technology services as well as big data industry all embraced a rapid growth.
The report also offers a evaluation to the information development of different regions in China in 2018, ranking Beijing, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Fujian, Tianjin, Chongqing, Hubei and Shandong as the top ten by information development.
In 2019, China will make every effort to push for digital construction by enhancing its information technology innovation capability, quickening the construction of new infrastructure, etc, noted Yang.
The report also pointed out that many achievements have been made in the Digital Silk Road construction in 2018.
China will further opening-up and cooperation to foster the joint construction of the Digital Silk Road and contribute to the establishment of a multilateral, democratic and transparent international Internet governance system, said Yang. (Edited by Gu Shanshan)
