FUZHOU, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Fuzhou port in east China's Fujian Province saw a big rise in imports of aquatic products from countries and regions along the Belt and Road (B&R) in the first quarter of this year, Fuzhou Customs said.
The imports totaled 43,000 tons and recorded 640 million yuan, showing a rise of 77.1 percent and 78.1 percent respectively, according to Fuzhou Customs.
From January to March, the imports of aquatic products via Fuzhou port reached 57,000 tonnes (tons), posting an increase of 93.7 percent year-on-year, and were valued at 930 million yuan, up 95.1 percent compared with the same period of last year, according to Fuzhou Customs.
Fuzhou, the capital city of Fujian Province, is home to a large aquatic product trading center in China, which has attracted a growing number of Belt and Road countries, especially ASEAN members like Indonesia and the Philippines to trade fishery products.
In a bid to facilitate the trade of imported aquatic products, Fuzhou Customs has innovated its supervision pattern and optimized customs clearance services at the port.
In addition, Fuzhou customs is supporting the construction of offshore fishing parks in Fuzhou, to enhance the cooperation between local fishery enterprises with firms from the countries and regions along the B&R.
To be specific, at present, Fujian Province has invested in the construction of nine overseas comprehensive fishery bases as well as five offshore aquaculture bases in ASEAN countries. (Edited by Jiang Feifan)
