WUHAN, April 25 (Xinhua) – Construction of five commercial aerospace projects started in the Wuhan National Aerospace Industry Base, Hubei Povince, Center China, on Wednesday, the fourth China Aerospace Day.
As the first state-level commercial aerospace industry base of China, the Wuhan base will be home to five projects, including a satellite industrial park, a satellite monitoring, operation and control center, an electromagnetic protective material production project.
The satellite industrial park, covering a land area of 28.4 hectares, is expected to have China's first intelligent small satellite assembly line capable of producing 100 small satellites annually, said Zou Guangbao, general manager of CASIC Space Engineering Development Co., Ltd., investor of the industrial park.
Zou also revealed that the company plans to undertake research, development and production of its Hongyun Project, a project dedicated to building a satellite-borne broadband global mobile Internet network, in the park in the future.
The satellite monitoring, operation and control center, constructed by China Aerospace Xingyun Technology Co., Ltd., will be responsible for monitoring, operation and control of 80 satellites under its "Xingyun Project", a program designed to build China's first low-orbit narrow-band satellite communication system, and set up a global communication network for the Internet of Things.
China Aerospace Xingyun Technology will launch two satellites within this year and complete researches and manufacturing of a dozen of satellites, small-scale networking and application expansion by 2010, accoridng to a source of the company, which is a controlled affiliate of China Space Sanjiang Group Corp., subsidiary of China’s state-owned aerospace giant China Aerospace Science and Industry Co., Ltd. (CASIC).
The Wuhan National Aerospace Industry Base is one of the four big industrial bases of Wuhan, capital of Hubei Province and it is designed to be a world-class commercial aerospace industry base highlighted by new carrier rockets and launching services, satellite platforms and payload, aerospace information application, ground and terminal equipment manufacturing.
