BEIJING, April 12(Xinhua) -- China's new energy vehicle (NEV) sales surged to 111,000 units in March, a year-on-year growth of 100.9 percent, statistics from China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) showed on Tuesday.
From January to March, the wholesale of NEV amounted to 254,000 units with a cumulative increase of 137,000 units. Industry experts predict that sales of NEV will reach 1.7 million units in 2019.
China has spared efforts to promote the use of NEVs so as to ease pressure on the environment, offering tax exemptions and discounts on car purchases. The government also encouraged carmakers to build more NEV factories and improve technology. (Edited by Bao Nuomin, Yang Yifan, baonuomin@xinhua.org, yangyifan@xinhua.org)
