MILAN, Apr 9 (Class Editori) – The EIB is getting ready to deliver some fresh resources for the development of the port of Ravenna. The European Investment Bank and the Port Authority of Ravenna have signed a loan for 65 million, adding up to the further 25 million that the EIB has already made available.
The Port Authority will be searching the market for a commercial bank capable of supplying the plafond. Counting in the 30 million allocated five years ago, the bank – led in Italy by Dario Scannapieco – destined a total of 120 million to the 2019 port hub project, aiming to create an integrated logistic system in order to support the connections with Asia against the backdrop of the New Silk Road.
The European Investment Bank keeps supporting the Italian port system, and has been injecting over 800 million in it during the last few years.
"Thanks to these funds we will build an integrated sea-rail logistics system – a cutting-edge, excellence factor which will allow us to open the port to new markets," explained Daniele Rossi, president of the Port Authority for the Central-Northern Adriatic Sea, as quoted by the MF-DowJones agency.
The structure is among the top 20 European ports in terms of dry bulk and various goods handling. The expansion and modernization project includes: the excavation of the seabed; the deepening of the access channel, of the external basin and of the accessory channels; the upgrading of the infrastructures (including the renovation of 6.5 km of docks); and the construction of new port logistics areas, covering 200 hectares and directly connected with the docks through two railway stations dedicated to freight traffic. The project also includes a motorway connection for bypassing the local traffic.
Last year the group signed for some further support with the European Commission, and is due to receive 37.2 million in non-repayable grants – which should add up to another 250 million allocated by CIPE, the Interministerial Economic Planning Committee.
