MILAN, Apr 5 (Class Editori) – Fincantieri has been collaborating with Eni in the creation of new and innovative products in the offshore sector. "It's a struggling sector, but we believe there is space for certain products to gain relevance in the market in the future," said Giuseppe Bono, CEO of Fincantieri, during the 2018 budget meeting. Equita as well thinks 2019 will be a transition year for the offshore segment, but they say to be expecting some good results during 2020.
Mr. Bono explained that the group is currently working on the construction of medium-sized boats with no personnel, and that the project is already entering its "advanced stage".
"We have been building ferries equipped with electric propulsion technologies," said the CEO. "They can be used for short distance travel, in areas with nearby islands. We are developing the batteries, which are supposed to be replaced every time the boat reaches the destination port. We already have a contract with MSC Yacht Club," added Bono, reminding that the company is quite active in sustainability promotion and in the attention to the environment.
Actually, in regard to the group’s objectives and its placement system, the CEO has just recently passed the first sustainability plan. "In this sense, we are promoting the commitment to labor's sustainable impact, even among the employees".
The offshore sector is also the one where China – a country where Fincantieri is creating a cruise industry hub – is planning to deepen its cooperation with Eni. We have long-term contracts running with Eni, and we are discussing about the possibility of cooperating in China and in third countries in Europe and Asia.
"We're hoping that the Italian companies may help us in accessing Europe and, through their know-how, in creating a collaboration based on mutual benefit," explained Lyu Yongfeng, Chief Deputy Chairman of China National Offshore Oil Corporation, during the Italy-China Business Forum for the cooperation in Third Countries, which took place in Rome at the end of March.
Wang Zhongcai, Vice President of PetroChina, is on the same page. "We believe that, in the near future, we may take our cooperation with Eni to the sea and have it enter a new stage," he said, adding that the offshore is becoming an important battlefield in the energy sector. "We both have a lot of experience in this field, so we are trying to deepen and to further this cooperation".
Eni and PetroChina are already operating together in gas extraction in Mozambico's Area 4, in a deposit in Kashaghan, and in Saudi Arabia.
