B&R science cooperation progresses steadily: minister

March 12, 2019

Abstract : The Belt and Road Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation Action Plan launched in 2017 has been progressing steadily, said Wang Zhigang, Minister of Science and Technology, at a press conference held on Monday.

BEIJING, March 12 (Xinhua) -- The Belt and Road Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation Action Plan launched in 2017 has been progressing steadily, said Wang Zhigang, Minister of Science and Technology, at a press conference held here on Monday.

According to the minister, good results have been achieved in four aspects, including science and technology people-to-people exchange, joint laboratory, science park cooperation and technology transfer, which are in line with the four initiatives of the action plan.

The minister said that since the plan was launched, China has invited more than 500 young scientists from Belt and Road countries for short-term research, and the technical training courses organized for developing countries along the Belt and Road has recruited more than 1,200 students.

The country has been constantly strengthening the cooperation with Industry-University-Research institutions along the Belt and Road, and several joint laboratories are under construction.

Wang revealed that China has established or plans to establish science park cooperation with eight countries, including the Philippines and Indonesia. High-tech zone cooperation has been popular between China and other countries along the Belt and Road, and even some developed countries, such as the United States, France and Belgium, have participated.

Five regional technology transfer platforms have been jointly established with ASEAN, South Asia, Arab countries, Central Asia, and Central and Eastern Europe, the minister added.

The progress shows that China has closely integrated science and technology innovation with the Belt and Road Initiative, as an effort to promote the high-quality development along the Belt and Road, stated the minister. (Edited by Li Wenxin, liwenxin@xinhua.org)
