BEIJING, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Northeast China’s Jilin Province plans to establish Changchun Economic Circle, connecting Harbin Metropolitan Area, Shenyang Economic Zone and east region of Inner Mongolia by transportation network, and radiating Russia, Japan, the Republic of Korea (ROK) and other Northeast Asian countries.
According to the plan released by the government of Jilin Province, Changchun Economic Circle covers 35 cities and counties including Changchun, Jilin, Siping, Liaoyuan, Songyuan, Gongzhuling and Meihekou, accounting for 84 percent of the province’s total GDP.
Jilin Province plans to formulate the overall industrial layout of the Changchun Economic Circle. Among them, Changchun, as the core area of innovation and development, will focus on cultivating advanced manufacturing clusters such as energy-saving and new energy vehicles and advanced rail transit equipment, as well as biological medicine, high-performance medical device and precise instrument. Jilin, Songyuan, Siping, Liaoyuan, Meihekou and other cities will accelerate the construction of innovative modern industrial systems with distinctive regional characteristics such as automobile, petrochemical industry, health and medicine, and new materials.
Meanwhile, Jilin will promote the construction of expressways and high-speed railways, and enhance airport capacity, in order to support the development of Changchun Economic Circle. (Edited by Tong Wei, tongwei@xinhua.org)
