The infrastructure is a priority for the diversification of energy supplies. It will transport 3 billion cubic meters of natural gas each year by 2021. The Chinese of China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering are also competing for the construction.
07/02/2019, Class Editori – Bonatti enters the short list for the construction of the gas interconnector between Bulgaria and Greece (Igb). The infrastructure is a project of European interest. By 2021 the project will in fact transport 3 billion cubic meters of natural gas each year, reinforcing the diversification of energy supply.
The holding company, based in Parma, participates together with the two Bulgarian engineering and construction companies Glavbolgarstroy International and Gp Group to the tender launched by the Icgb joint venture, formed by the gas operator Beh, 100% controlled by the Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism of Sofia, and by the Igi Poseidon Consortium, formed by the Italian Edison and the Greek gas operator Depa.
Other four companies and consortia have joined Bonatti in the 145 million euro tender for the construction of the cross-border interconnection that will cover the two countries for 182 kilometers, from Komotini in Greece to Stara Zagora.
According to the documents published on the ICGB site, the following are part of the competition: the joint venture of the Germans Max Streicher and Greek Terna, the consortium between the French Spiecapag, part of the Vinci group, and the Bulgaria Trace Group, the Greek J&P Avac, the Greek joint venture Aktor and the Chinese group China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering.
Last November, the European antitrust gave the green light to the construction and management of the interconnector using public funds. The European Investment Bank has already granted a € 110 million loan to Beh, which is covered by a € 39 million government guarantee. The infrastructure is part of European projects of common interest. The strategic importance is given by the objective of diversification of supplies. The pipeline will connect the Bulgarian transmission system to Tap (Trans-Adriatic Pipeline), that will bring Azeri resources to Italy through Greece and Albania, and to the Desfa, the Greek transmission system of which Snam, together with Enagás and Fluxys, acquired 66%.
As the European Commissioner for Competition Margrethe Vestager explained four months ago, "the new gas interconnection between Greece and Bulgaria will increase the security of energy supply and strengthen competition for the benefit of the citizens of the region". Recently the Minister for Energy Temenouzhka Petkova has reminded that works will begin in May and will be completed in 2020.
