BEIJING, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- China and Laos signed agreement last Friday in Vientiane on 21 new projects of Laos under the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) special fund.
The approval of the new projects marks further achievements of China-Laos cooperation under the LMC framework, following the first batch of 13 projects that have been launched, said Jiang Zaidong, Chinese ambassador to Laos.
With support of the LMC special fund, Laos has gained tangible benefits in the fields of human resources development, capacity cooperation, infrastructure construction, health, agriculture and poverty alleviation, according to Lao Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Khamphao Ernthavanh.
Lancang-Mekong Cooperation is a sub-regional cooperation mechanism created in 2016 by the six countries along the Lancang-Mekong river including China, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam. At the first LMC Leaders' Meeting, China proposed the establishment of LMC special fund, based on which 300 million U.S. dollars would be provided in five years to support small- and medium-sized cooperation projects put forward by the six Lancang-Mekong countries.
