Six digital innovation centers are to be established in the eastern German state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The university towns of Rostock, Stralsund, Greifswald, Neubrandenburg and Wismar as well as the state capital Schwerin are planned as locations, the state energy ministry, which is responsible for digitalization, announced in Schwerin on Wednesday. The city of Wismar received a state grant of 1.38 million euros for its digital innovation center on Thursday. It is to be built in a former warehouse in the old port.
In order to create the best conditions for company founders and start-ups to implement their digital business ideas, one floor of the old warehouse, encompassing around 400 square meters, will be renovated and converted. Forschungs-GmbH, a subsidiary of the Wismar University of Applied Sciences, is to operate the center. The renovation work is to begin in February and the Wismar digital innovation center will then move into the premises in the second half of 2020.
