China to accelerate transport construction in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area and Xiongan New Area -- China plans to speed up the construction of transportation projects in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Area and Xiongan New Area, said Wu Chungeng, spokesperson for the Ministry of Transport (MOT) on Jan. 24. The projects include the main traffic arteries of the Xiongan New Area and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei area, such as the Beijing-Xiongan intercity railway and the Tianjin-Shijiazhuang Expressway, Beijing-Shenyang high-speed railway, Datong-Zhangjiakou high-speed railway and Beijing-Qinhuangdao Expressway.

7th land-based control point connecting Hong Kong, Shenzhen expected to be completed this year -- The government of China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) is striving to complete the construction of the boundary control point at Liantang/Heung Yuen Wai connecting Hong Kong and Shenzhen this year, Secretary for Development of HKSAR government Michael Wong said on Jan. 30. The commissioning schedule for the new control point will be confirmed through ongoing coordination between the governments of HKSAR and Shenzhen, said Wong. According to Wong, the construction of the connecting road was about 97 percent complete, while the control point buildings were about 85 percent complete.

C China Hubei begins construction of 452 transportation projects -- The construction on 452 major transportation projects has begun in Central China's Hubei Province, with the total investment amounting to 54.68 billion yuan, according to chinanews.com. The projects cover five construction categories including six expressway projects, 53 artery highway projects, seven water transportation projects, 19 logistic station projects, and 367 highway projects in rural area of Hubei. The total investment will be allocated as 21.49 billion yuan in expressway projects, 20.33 billion yun in artery highway projects, 7.61 billion yuan in water transportation projects as well as 4.6 billion yuan in logistic stations projects.

Ethiopian Airlines' latest Chinese-built infrastructure to power continental ambition -- Ethiopian Airlines Group, the fastest growing aviation group in Africa, has envisaged to realize its ambition of becoming Africa's leading aviation hub with its latest Chinese-built infrastructure. Ethiopia's flag carrier on January 27 inaugurated an expansion project at the Bole International Airport in the capital Addis Ababa, which was funded and built by China with a construction cost of some 363 million U.S. dollars. The newly inaugurated terminal, with funding from the Export-Import Bank of China and built by the Chinese construction giant China Communications Construction Company, has an annual capacity of serving about 22 million passengers, eventually tripling the airline's current capacity towards making Addis Ababa as the aviation hub of the African continent.

March groundbreaking for expressway linking Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville confirmed -- The groundbreaking for an expressway linking Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville has been confirmed for March, according to the Khmer Times. During a press conference on January 25, Wang Wentian, the Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, said the project will be built with assistance from the Chinese government as it is part of China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). A construction team composed of 200 workers from China arrived in Cambodia earlier this month to work on the project. Transport Minister Sun Chanthol said recently that USD100-million worth of construction materials will be imported into Cambodia before the end of January to build the expressway.
