BEIJING, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- China’s utilization of renewable energy sources including hydropower, wind power, PV power and biomass power have improved greatly in 2018, statistics released by the National Energy Administration (NEA) showed on Monday.
China’s average hydropower utilization rate reached about 95 percent in 2018, according to Li Chuangjun, deputy head with the new energy and renewable energy department under the NEA.
Meanwhile, the curtailment rates of wind power and PV power dropped by 5 and 2.8 percentage points, respectively compared with 2017, Li noted.
The NEA as well as other department released adjusted polices in 2018 addressing increasing subsidy shortfall and power waste caused by fast expansion of PV capacity, with the country adding 44.26 million kw of new PV installed capacity in the year.
China’s renewable energy’s installed capacity reached 728 million kw by the end of 2018, up 12 percent on year, with renewable energy generated electricity amounting to 1.87 trillion kwh for the whole year, rising by 170 billion kwh from 2017, the NEA data showed.
