BEIJING, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) – The first light rail line built by China Railway Sixth Group Co., Ltd. as the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contractor in Vietnam successfully completed the whole-line test run on December 30, providing scientific data basis for the official operation of the project.
The line, starting from Cat Linh to Ha Dong in Hanoi, capital city of Vietnam, is around 13 kilometers in length and runs through 12 stations with a total investment of 868 million U.S. dollars. The construction of the project began in November 2011 with test run starting from September 20, 2018. It received funds from the Export-Import Bank of China (EIBC).
The line is a demonstration project that aligns the Belt and Road construction with Vietnam's development plan for the Kunming-Laojie-Hanoi-Haiphong-Quang Ninh and the Nanning-Lang Son-Hanoi-Haiphong-Quang Ninh economic corridors and the Beibu Gulf economic rim. It will greatly help improve the road network of Hanoi, ease its traffic pressure and foster regional economic development in Vietnam.
The successful test run may be attributable to joint efforts from participants as well as the introduction of Chinese technology, standard, equipment and experience by Chinese firms as a response to the Belt and Road Initiative, noted Tanghong, manger of the project and general manager of the Overseas Engineering Branch with China Railway Sixth Group Co., Ltd..
