BEIJING, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and the Ministry of National Resources (MNR) Monday jointly issued guidelines on the development of 14 marine economic development demonstration zones for further enhancing its marine economic strength.

The 14 marine economic development demonstration zones are designated in cities and industrial parks in Shandong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Tianjin, Shanghai and Hainan.

Specifically, the demonstration zone in Lingshui of Hainan Province will focus on marine tourism with rich resources of beaches, islands, scenic bays and mangrove forests; while Rizhao demonstration zone in Shangdong Province is assigned to promote the innovative development of international logistics and shipping services.

According to the announcement, the development of demonstration zones should give priority to environmental protection and utilize marine resources rationally. New landreclamation projects are completely prohibited unless those relating to national strategies, while existing projects should be strictly regulated.
