Senior government figures from more than 50 European Union and African Union countries are meeting in Vienna on Tuesday to strengthen economic cooperation between the two continents, amid efforts to tackle the root causes for migration.
The meeting is convened by Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz, whose country holds the rotating EU presidency, and Rwandan President Paul Kagame, who serves as AU chairman. The meeting focuses on digital technologies and also includes presentations by African start-ups.
"Only [by] boosting investment in Africa and creating opportunities for Africans in their countries we can reduce migratory flows towards Europe," European Parliament President Antonio Tajani tweeted ahead of the Vienna meeting.
