BEIJING, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) – With the launch and implementation of a series of policies concerning imports and exports which have contributed greatly to China's foreign trade, China will undoubtedly embrace steady foreign trade growth in the whole year of 2018, according to experts.
According to China's General Administration of Customs (GAC), China's goods imports and exports increased 11.1 percent year on year to 27.88 trillion yuan from January to November this year.
Zhang Jianping, a professor at the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation (CAITEC) in China's Ministry of Commerce, said that the general scale of China's foreign trade in the first 11 months of 2018 has exceeded market expectations, a result of increasing global demands, stable domestic economic development and increasing competitiveness.
China's foreign trade will maintain steady growth in the whole year of 2018 and this situation is likely to continue into next year, predicted Zhang.
According to Li Kuiwen, director-general of GAC's Department of Statistics, China's imports during this period grew rapidly by 14.6 percent, 6.4 percentage points higher than the growth of exports in the same period.
Zhang noted that during this period, the growth of China's imports and exports with countries along the Belt and Road routes was 3.3 percentage points higher than its overall import and export growth, and the proportion of these imports and exports in China's total foreign trade increased by 0.8 percentage points. Great potential still exists in foreign trade with these countries.
Cross-border e-commerce developed particularly fast. GAC data showed that in the first ten months of this year, China's retail imports and exports through Customs cross-border e-commerce platforms amounted to 111.04 billion yuan, up 86 percent year on year.
Optimized business environment is crucial to the stable and healthy development of foreign trade. According to Zhang Guangzhi, head of GAC's National Office of Port Administration, remarkable achievements have been made with the continuous optimization of port business environment.
According to a report on the business environment in 2019 released by the World Bank, China's ranking in business environment facilitation has risen by 32 spots. (Edited by Gu Shanshan)
