The German manufacturers of mining machinery are benefiting from the policies of US President Donald Trump. The increased use of domestic hard coal in the United States has also boosted demand for machinery and equipment from Germany, said Michael Schulte Strathaus, chairman of the industry association, on Thursday in Essen. He expects exports to the United States to continue to rise in the coming year.
Schulte Strathaus said 2018 had been a good year for German manufacturers of materials handling technology. A dry spell that had lasted since 2013 has now been overcome. The industry's turnover is expected to increase by 12 percent to around 3.1 billion euros. Mining machinery manufacturers are now selling their goods primarily abroad. Only 90 million euros worth of machines will be sold in Germany this year. The German hard coal mining industry, formerly a major customer, is to be completely shut down by the end of the year.
