BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- China’s industry and communication sector saw stable performance in the first three quarters of this year, with its quality and efficiency improving constantly, industrial structure optimizing and upgrading, Xin Guobin, vice minister of industry and information technology said on Tuesday.
From January to September, the country continued its efforts in cutting down the excessive capacity in the sectors of steel, electrolytic aluminum, cement, and flat glass and stepped up the pace of reducing cost and burdens on enterprises. The business environment thus further improved.
Meanwhile, the country has accelerated boosting the development of intelligent manufacturing, and made breakthroughs in core technology of the sector.
In the first nine months of this year, the added value of high-tech manufacturing and equipment manufacturing increased 11.8 percent and 8.6 percent year on year respectively.
Thanks to the supply-side reform and series of policy supports, the operation quality of enterprises has been continuously improved, and their profitability has been significantly enhanced. In the first eight months of this year, China’s industrial enterprises with main business revenue above 20 million yuan achieved a 16.2 percent year on year rise in total profits and the ratio of main business revenue to profits increased 0.35 percentage points.
China’s telecommunication industry has maintained stable operation in Q1-Q3, with revenue of telecommunication business up 3 percent year on year, and total telecommunication business surging 139.8 percent year on year.
Ku Wen, head of the MIIT information and communication department said that the country will continue to deepen the pilot work of universal telecommunications services and support the coverage of 4G networks in administrative villages, border areas and islands this year.
The country will set the goal for increasing 4G network coverage from the current 95 percent to 98 percent by 2020, said Ku. (Edited by Ma Xin, maxin11@xinhua.org)
