BEIJING, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Kashi Free Trade Zone in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has simplified custom clearance procedures to enhance the efficiency, which is expected to cut down clearance costs by 200 million yuan per year.
To resolve the problems of low efficiency and high cost of customs clearance, the free trade zone together with the local customs authority invested 1.5 million yuan in March this year to build a customs inspection center and upgrade the customs clearance supervision system, which has greatly improved the customs clearance efficiency and, lowered the custom costs.
After the customs inspection center in the free trade zone was put into service, it takes only one hour in normal circumstances to complete all procedures of import and export goods, which help reduce the clearance costs of each truck by 4,000 to 5,000 yuan.
By the calculation of 200 trucks per day, the customs clearance cost can be reduced by about 1 million yuan per day, and more than 200 million yuan per year.
The reform measures have simplified the customs clearance procedure, shortened the customs clearance time, and reduced the logistics cost of customs clearance, said Bai Can, an official of the free trade zone.
At present, the free trade zone has realized an import and export trade turnover of 741.39 million U.S. dollars, with a cargo volume of 3,350 tons and the bonded warehousing goods worth more than 46 million U.S. dollars.
There are 54 registered enterprises in the zone with a registered capital of 810 million yuan.
In addition, the Kashi Free Trade Zone has cooperated with the free trade zones in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Pakistan in an effort to promote tariff-free operations and free flows of the goods within them, said Bai. (Edited by Wu Shuang, wushuang2018@xinhua.org)
