Tourism in Germany is still on pace to set record figures. In August, there were 56 million overnight stays by local and foreign guests in the country's hotels and inns, up three per cent from August of 2017. The number of overnight stays by foreign guests came to 10.6 million, up five per cent year-opn-year, the Federal Statistics Office said in Wiesbaden. Overnight bookings by domestic travellers came to 45.4 million, up three per cent.
The August figures continued the positive trend of the preceding months. In the January-August period the number of overnight stays in Germany totalled 326 million, up four per cent on the same 2017 period. Foreign guest overnight bookings came to 59.9 million, as against domestic bookings of 266.6 million. Each figure was four per cent higher than the January-August 2017 period.
Citing the long warm summer and the country's robust economy, the German hotel and restaurants association Dehoga expects 2018 to show record overnight booking figures for the ninth straight year. The statistics office figures are based on data provided by hotels and inns with at least ten beds.
